| Kroff Chemical Company Industrial and Commercial Water Treatment Chemicals and Services About Us | Industries Served | Benefits of Working with KCC | Leadership | Specialty Areas Leadership David Grottenthaler General Manager It's true that good, old-fashioned hard work pays off. Kroff Chemical Company General Manager Dave Grottenthaler's 30-year commitment to the water treatment chemical industry and his customers is proof. In his 13 years with Kroff, Grottenthaler has advanced from sales representative, to regional manager, to general sales manager, to general manager, and become an integral part of Kroff's leadership team. During that time, he has coordinated cost-savings projects for many customers. Through energy reductions, waste minimization, outfall compliance, and labor reallocation, projects for customers in the primary metals markets alone have saved more than $2.4 million annually. Results for DBOOM projects are the same: a project at ISG Sparrows Point steel mill in Baltimore, Md., is netting $1.1 million annually in savings. Grottenthaler has also built multiple strategic alliances with financial institutions, energy providers, engineering and equipment firms, and waste recyclers to support and service Kroff Chemical Company's customer base. Grottenthaler takes pride in knowing that even as Kroff, Inc. experiences fast growth, it remains nimble and responsive to its customers. Twenty years after its creation, the company still quickly turns good ideas into action. The custom products he has developed at Kroff - two of which are patented and three of which are patent pending - to support the steel, mining and oil and gas exploration industries are examples of Kroff's creative, solution-oriented environment. He has shared his knowledge of the industry to the benefit of those inside the company as well as the industry at large. He was instrumental in designing a KCC staff training program to support the total cost of operation (TCO) approach Kroff takes with its customers. In addition, Grottenthaler authored "Proper Treatment of Caster Water Treatment Circuits," which was published by the Association of Iron and Steel Technologies (AIST). He is a member of the AIST, Association of Water Technologists and Western Pennsylvania Engineers Society. Before joining Kroff, Grottenthaler held various sales-related positions. He most recently worked at Baker-Petrolite (Chemlink) for five years, focusing on water treatment for the steel and power industries. He was also a sales executive at Calgon Corporation in 1979 and then later at Drew Industrial Chemical Co. in 1985. Grottenthaler graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's in microbiology in 1979. A Pittsburgh native, he now lives in McDonald, Pa., with his wife and son.
